500-hour service for excavators and backhoes: what to change and check
The 500-hour service is one of the most important routine services for heavy equipment, and it covers most of the parts that wear with daily work. The exact schedule varies by make and model, so your machine's service manual is always the first reference. These are the core items that appear on most machines.
Replace
- Engine oil and oil filter.
- Fuel filters (primary and secondary) and drain the water separator.
- Outer air filter if it shows restriction or per the indicator.
- Hydraulic tank breather filter (on some models).
Inspect
- Hydraulic oil level and return filter per the manufacturer's schedule.
- Fan and alternator belts: tension and cracks.
- Radiator and coolant: level, leaks and cleanliness.
- Hydraulic hoses: leaks, cracks or chafing.
- Battery and terminals.
- Teeth, bushes and pins: play and wear.
Grease
Grease every lubrication point per the manual. Most boom and bucket points need greasing daily or every 10 hours anyway, so the 500-hour service is a chance to make sure no point has been missed and no grease nipple is blocked.
Tips that make a difference
- Log every service with the date and operating hours.
- Use oil that matches the specification in the manual, not whatever is available.
- Don't mix old genuine filter numbers with new ones without confirming the correct number for your model and serial.
- On dusty sites and in high heat, shorten the intervals instead of waiting the full 500 hours.
We match the right part for your machine by serial number, genuine or aftermarket, and deliver it to your site anywhere in Saudi Arabia.
